What is gum recession?
Gums are like our clothes — they keep out the cold and embellish our appearance. When gums retreat toward the root and expose the tooth roots, it's called gum recession. Clinical manifestations: elongation of the crown and different degrees of sensitivity to hot, sour and sweet food. Exposed roots not only affect appearance but provide a breeding ground for plaque. If oral hygiene is poor, it may even cause pulpitis.
According to medical statistics, about half of adults show different degrees of gum recession. Age and genetics have some influence, but the real culprits are mechanical damage — excessive brushing, nighttime bruxism, improper bite force, uneven teeth and adverse reactions after orthodontic treatment.
The breakthrough: Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation
For many years, the dental community had almost no effective treatment for gum recession. Gum-transplant surgery is effective but expensive and painful. Gluing exposed defective roots doesn't work well. Desensitizing toothpaste is extremely limited. Even artificial dermis, while reducing pain from grafting, has high cost and long recovery.
The Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation technique, invented by Dr. John Chao of California, is a breakthrough for this thousand-year-old condition. It allows patients to receive easy, effective and affordable treatment.
- No surgery or sutures
- Normal life resumed as soon as anesthesia wears off
- Multiple teeth or entire mouth treated in one visit
- Results visible the same day
