Dental phobia is real, and we take it seriously
Dental fear is a normal emotional response when visiting a dental office — fear of the unknown. Dental phobia is the more extreme anxiety before and during dental visits. At Centre Dental we recognize most people have some degree of dental fear, and a few percent have real phobia — mostly due to past traumatic experience. With that in mind, we have implemented many mitigating measures to alleviate possible causes of unpleasant experiences.
Fear of Injections
Nobody likes getting a shot. Many dental procedures require local anesthesia — we take this fear seriously.
- Solea laser for many procedures — usually no injections for cavities, minor surgeries (frenectomy, operculectomy, tumor removal, implant uncovering), canker sore and cold sore treatment, Laser Bacterial Reduction and more.
- Onset anesthetic buffering makes Novocain pH-neutral so injections hurt much less.
- Computerized injection system delivers anesthetic at a controlled rate — far less traumatic than traditional injections.
Fear of Radiation
We use high-quality digital X-ray machines with significantly reduced doses. Patients wear a lead-free apron with thyroid collar to protect vital organs. For pregnant women, the iTero scanner with NIRI accurately diagnoses cavities and many other issues — radiation-free.
Fear of Pain
Our conservative, minimally invasive philosophy permeates treatment planning, care delivery and re-care. We focus on details — every small measure makes a big difference in patient experience and satisfaction. Cutting-edge technology, world-class equipment and gentle care experience make treatment less traumatic, recovery uneventful and results long-lasting.
Other Fears
Patient safety and comfort is always our top priority. We use eye-protection goggles for every patient. Instruments are either disposable or autoclave-sterilized. We provide lip moisturizer for dry lips. We always wet the cotton rolls before removing to avoid gum trauma. We're attentive and interactive during treatment — you have total control of the process.
Severe Phobic Patients
We recognize that true phobia exists. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to reduce anxiety. For extreme phobic patients, sedative dentistry may be required — we will refer those patients to facilities that offer sedation.
